What is 3x3?

FIBA 3x3 is the fast-paced, dynamic version of basketball played on a half-court with one hoop. It's a game of skill, speed, and strategy, where every possession counts. Simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere by anybody, 3x3 is now an Olympic and Commonwealth Games discipline, making it one of the fastest-growing urban sports in the world.

The Rules of the Game

The Court & Teams

Played on one half-court with one basket. Each team consists of 3 players and 1 substitute.

Scoring

Shots inside the arc are worth 1 point. Shots behind the arc are worth 2 points. Free throws are worth 1 point.

Game Clock & Shot Clock

A game is 10 minutes long with a 12-second shot clock. The game ends when a team scores 21 points or at the 10-minute mark.

How the Game is Won

The first team to score 21 points wins instantly. If no team reaches 21, the team with the higher score at the end of 10 minutes wins.

Possession

A coin flip decides the first possession. After a made basket, the non-scoring team gets the ball under the hoop and must clear it behind the arc.

Fouls

Teams are in the penalty situation after their 6th foul. After the 9th team foul, any subsequent foul is a technical foul.
